How to be Successful in Class
Note-Taking
One of the best ways to become successful in class is to take accurate notes that can be used to complete homework assignments and quiz review. A number of practice problems and definitions will be provided, sometimes in lecture format, other times in small groups. It is your responsibility to interpret and write down the information.
|
Complete Homework Assignments
It is of the utmost importance that you complete homework assignments on time. This is to ensure that you understand the material so that we can build new knowledge and skills from a solid foundation. Work should reflect your own ideas and thoughts about the content; any work that is not your own will receive no credit.
|
Ask Questions?
Throughout the year the material may be challenging. Please ask questions if concepts become confusing or if the pacing becomes too rigorous. It is imperative that you remain focused when new content is being introduced so you can ask thoughtful questions.

Grades
Quizzes - May be given more than once per week. They will cover important material from notes and other written work. Quizzes vary in point value, but are usually 20-25 points each.
Tests – Consist of selected material from notes and other written work from a unit. All tests are announced one week in advance of the date the test is given. Tests will be graded within two (2) class days after the test date. Tests are 100 points each. A student may make test corrections on any test to earn back 50% of points missed.
Class Work and Homework: Classwork or homework will be assigned every day. It will include written work from your textbook, handouts, or problems given in class. Classwork or homework will be checked and graded on a 5 point scale (i.e., 0= Not submitted; 5 = all problems attempted and all work shown). Homework is to be done independently. Homework that is obviously copied will result in a grade of 0 and/or loss of bonus point for the persons involved.
